Welcome!

Music Ecosystems Institute (MEI) is a nonprofit venture institutionalizing and expanding beyond the conference series that Professor Seán O’Connor has been organizing since 2018. Participants at those conferences have also contributed chapters to the Oxford Handbook on Music Law & Policy (Oxford Univ. Press).

Conferences to date include:

2024: The Role of Law and Policy in the Rise of K-Pop and Other Asian Music Genres hosted by MEI, the Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy (C-IP2) at George Mason University Scalia Law School, and Mason Korea.

2020: The Evolving Music Ecosystem hosted by the Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy (C-IP2) at George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School.

2018: The New Music Ecosystem hosted by the Center for Advanced Studies and Research on Innovation Policy (CASRIP), University of Washington School of Law.

This blog will post stories and analysis about issues arising in the music ecosystem as well as updates about MEI activities
